GOP Debate-WTF

Last night, the GOP debate was a disappointing display of political theater, filled with the typical lies and rehearsed soundbites that have become all too familiar. It served as a stark reminder of just how far removed these candidates are from reality and how crucial it is to prevent them from attaining positions of power.
What made the debate even more surreal was the absence of Donald Trump, the man who has dominated the Republican party for the past few years. Instead, the spotlight was on the candidate who is likely to become the party’s nominee. However, rather than being treated with respect and dignity, this individual was subjected to the indignity of being fingerprinted, photographed, and searched like a common criminal. It was a stark contrast to the pledge signed by his so-called opponents on the debate stage, who had all vowed to support him. In reality, many of them were merely using the debate as an opportunity to audition for positions in his future cabinet.
This entire race can be summed up in a nutshell. Regardless of which candidate tried to outdo the others in terms of being “woke,” they all have one thing in common: their unwavering support for a man who has shown a complete disregard for the law. It is disheartening to see the lengths to which these candidates are willing to go to appease the most lawless individual in American history.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that any of these candidates will be able to defeat Trump in the primary. They have all become sycophants, and the only way to remove them from public life is to defeat them decisively at the ballot box.
The reality of our current situation is that we have a long and arduous road ahead of us. Just consider the extremist rhetoric that was spewed by each candidate during the debate. And then, take a moment to reflect on the events unfolding in Fulton County today, where the former President is facing the prospect of being formally arrested for his attempts to undermine a democratic election. It is a sentence that carries immense moral weight and highlights just how far we have fallen as a nation.
Trump has managed to normalize his criminal behavior and the morally bankrupt policies he espouses. This is precisely why he continues to dominate the GOP primary and why polls showing a close race between him and President Biden are still a cause for concern.
It is disheartening that we find ourselves in a position where we must fight tooth and nail to defeat a man who may very well end up in a prison cell if he fails to secure the White House. However, this is the reality we face, and we must confront it head-on.
In the coming days, the media will inevitably declare a “winner” of the debate, further perpetuating the normalization of one of these candidates. However, it is important to recognize that it will not be Ron DeSantis, despite his popularity. Anyone who believes that anyone other than Trump will be anointed as the winner is simply deluding themselves and posing a danger to our democracy.
The stakes in our current political moment are incredibly high. We cannot afford to sit idly by and hope for change. We must rise up and meet the challenges before us, ensuring that our voices are heard and that we work tirelessly to protect the values and principles that our democracy was built upon.
